It is widely said that “Love is blind” and often times I wonder if this is really true, and if yes, to what extent is it true. What most people call love is just a feeling or emotion which clouds their reasoning or sense of judgement. Which is why you see a young lady being maltreated and battered in an unhealthy relationship still saying it is love. Many people ignore important differences in their values and beliefs, dangerous signs, addictions and habits in their relationships despite various warnings and advice from family and friends.
So I’ll like to ask, IS LOVE REALLY BLIND?
I daresay NO!
Love is truly patient and kind, not easily provoked and quick to forget offenses. However, love does not nurse evil. A healthy relationship should be full of care, admiration, affection, respect and trust. Love gives good things.
If all you get in your relationship is criticism, anger, jealousy, cheating, battering or even disrespect; then you had better open your eyes wide and reconsider. Ignoring those signs and going into such marriage will have a lasting effect on you and even your children.
Most people fantasize in their heads and do not face the reality on ground. They think that they will be able to change their partner when they get married. But that’s a misconception. You need to consider if you will be able to endure the things you see in them NOW!
Do I suggest that you break-up? Maybe not yet. You could communicate these things to your partner because the truth of the matter is that he/she may not even realize that what they do is wrong! Their response, attitude and willingness to change, coupled with corresponding action might encourage you to stay and make things work.
Love is tolerate and considerate, but love, my dear, is not blind!
